Ambassadors discussing “The European Perspective”

Dr. Hans-Gert Pöttering was the keynote speaker at the monthly jour fixe of the Ambassadors Club. The former president of the European Parliament and current chairman of the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation chose the topic “The European perspective” for his speech in front of the ambassadors from around the world.

Mania Feilcke-Dierck, the President of the Ambassadors Club was very pleased to welcome 42 ambassadors this time. And among them a whole new set of ambassadors, such as from Afghanistan, Albania, Botswana, Georgia, Ghana, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
In his lecture Pöttering talked about a number of issues, which led to a lively discussion with the ambassadors in the aftermath. The thematic focus was the Russian-Ukrainian crisis. Pöttering called for solidarity with Ukraine, but without the use of weapons.

Within the EU, the strengthening of Poland should have a high priority, such as the appointment of the Polish Prime Minister Daniel Tusk to become the President of the European Council showed. Other topics included immigration to the EU, the economy and the climate change. Pöttering called on behalf of stabilizing the euro and asked the ambassadors to help in the fight against global warming.
