„More Development policies than ever“ has been the topic of the speech held by Dr. Gerd Müller, Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, at the monthly Jour Fixe of the Ambassadors Club. Mania Feilcke-Dierck, president of the Ambassador Club, was able to welcome her guests in front of a filled hall at the China Club Berlin located inside the Hotel Adlon at the Pariser Platz. While 37 ambassadors from many different regions attended the event, special interest was shown by the Excellencies from Africa and Asia.
During his speech Minister Müller talked about “ONEWORLD – Our Responsibility”, stating that the development policies concluded by the G7 Summit in Elmau were a promising start for the global conferences to come. Reminding the audience that there is still a lot left to be done on parts of climate change and world food supply he emphasized Germany’s responsibility to support developing countries in their progress by helping them to help themselves. Especially in Africa the Federal Minister is optimistic about the future of renewable energy and technology.
But for this to be achieved a stable political situation and “good governance” would be required.
Enjoying the speech and the following Q&A the ambassadors seemed to be especially charmed by Minister Müller’s humorous Bavarian nature.
